Lower School News W/E 4.11.16

The first week back after half term has been full of exciting things.  The Year 3s have been finishing off their wonderful pottery scarab beetles and the year 4s have   been investigating the significance of the scarab beetle to the Ancient Egyptians. How they portrayed it as a creature with power to move the sun across the sky and how it gave them power and life.

They have also been using movement and control as they start their new PE topic, Gymnastics. They have practiced setting up apparatus and using it to move and turn in different ways across the floor.

In history, the year 3s continue to look at The Stone Age and have been learning about how long ago the Stone Age was. The year 4s continue to look at life in ancient Egypt. They have compared ancient drawings and described the differences they can see in the different occupations that were around then.

In RE the Lower Juniors have started looking at the Christmas story. With only a few more weeks to go before the end of term, Christmas is nearly here and the children have been revisiting the reasons why Christmas is so important for Christians.

English

This week the year 3s have continued looking at Information texts as they prepare to write instructions on how to make felt for Stone Age felt purses. The year 4s continue to look at Report writing and the features and language of reports. Next week both will be writing texts based on what they have learnt this week.

Maths

In maths this week the classes have looked at multiplication. Next week they will be looking at fractions for the first time this year and will be investigating what the term fraction means.

Homework

They will all have Maths, English and Topic homework set throughout the term. Maths will be set on a Monday and will be either worksheets, Ed City work or Times Tables Rock Star. English or Topic homework will be sent home on Wednesday and they will have a week to complete it.

The Year 3 s and 4s also have spellings and tables this coming week and will be tested on them at the end of the week.

Times tables Rock Stars: As a new adventure, they have been given a password and instructions to log on and create a rock star which they can develop by earning money from table’s challenges at https://ttrockstars.com/login. This is a great activity to help them remember their times tables and we know they will enjoy it!

Times tables challenges can also be found on Ed City. If you are having trouble logging into Ed City site then we have found that Google Chrome if the best search engine to use to access the site.
