The penultimate week has been a very busy and exciting week. The classes have been finishing off the clay scarab beetles with glaze and have fired them in the kiln. They have then evaluated the process of making them, looking at the design and production of the clay beetles. They look great!
The classes have also been finishing off their termly topics. The year 3s have been looking at Iron Age settlements and investigating what life was like three thousand years ago. The year 4s have been looking finally at life as it can be interpreted from the artefacts left behind from Ancient Egypt. They have been comparing such different lives as those of scribes, noblemen, priestesses and Pharaohs.
But the main focus of the week has been the Christmas production of Panto Crime. The children have been busy rehearsing for the performances later in the week. They have been rehearsing the songs that accompany the play. And those members of the Lower Juniors lucky enough to have been cast in the production, have been busily rehearsing their lines. As we come to the end of the week, the dress rehearsal on Wednesday to the adults who volunteer in the school, was a great chance to see it for the first time. And on Friday, many LJs will be coming back to school to sing, when it is their turn to entertain their parents and carers to a wonderful production.
This week the year 3s have been writing about dragons. They have studies Tell me a Dragon by Jackie Morris and have written their own stories in the same style. This coming week they will be looking at Dragon poetry.
The year 4s have been looking at stories by the author, Roald Dahl. They have looked at the language, content and style of the stories. This coming week they will look at extracts of these stories and will be writing in a similar style.
In maths this week the year 3 classes have been looking at lines and shape. This coming week they will be looking at Christmas money problems. The year 4s have been looking weather data. They have looked at temperature and sunshine records of Liss and Kafuro as well as recording data from our own weather station here at Liss School. This final week, they will be presenting and comparing data in a variety of ways and producing their own weather reports.
They will all have Maths, English and Topic homework set throughout the term. Maths will be set on a Monday and will be either worksheets, Ed City work or Times Tables Rock Star work. English or Topic homework will be sent home on Wednesday. They will have a week to complete it.
The Year 3 s and 4s also have spellings and tables each week and will be tested on them at the end of the week.
Times tables Rock Stars: As a new adventure, they have been given a password and instructions to log on and create a rock star which they can develop by earning money from table’s challenges at https://ttrockstars.com/login. This is a great activity to help them remember their times tables and we know they will enjoy it!
Times tables challenges can also be found on Ed City. If you are having trouble logging into Ed City site then we have found that Google Chrome if the best search engine to use to access the site.
